If you want funny and just this side of cuckoo, pick up anything by Christopher Moore. I really liked "Fluke (I Know Why the Winged Whale Sings)" and "The Gospel According to Biff, Jesus' Childhood Friend". His vampire/demon/underworld themed books are good, too. I've been alternating between his books and Philippa Gregory - she writes historical/romance novels. "The Other Boleyn Girl" is one of hers.
