I'm Insane

I must be. My fat, lazy ass is contemplating a possible half marathon. Shit. Did I just say that out loud?

Here's the deal. I've always talked about doing one, but since I don't run (at all, as in running is scary to me) I've never got up the gumption to do one. I hate running, even jogging. So, why am I even thinking of the possibility? Well, there is a woman, Jill, who ran a marathon the other year after surviving preeclampsia. Like she almost died, severe preeclampsia. She had to relearn how to walk again and battled back to run a marathon. How inspiring is she?! Well, she's got this idea to run half & full marathon's in Sept for the Preeclampsia Foundation. And I embrace the idea. This may be what my fat arse needs for motivation. I spoke of this publicly now. Um, what am I getting myself into? This would get me exercising for a great cause and to get myself more healthy, especially my heart.

So, I'm completely insane right? From going to almost no exercise to training for a possible half-marathon? I must be joking. Can I even do this? ACK!!! I guess I better get on the treadmill tonight.

OH MY GOD!!!!! AWESOME!!!!!
I'll do it with you!

It may seem overwhelming, the thought of 13.1 miles, but take it one step at a time (literally, and yes, pun intended). Start with a 5k. There's lots of those to choose from, then when you've done that, do a 10k (6.2 miles or half of a half).

Then, work into a half marathon. It doesn't seem so "big" if you train for it, take your time, but the BIG key to accomplishing a distance like this: HAVE FUN DOING IT!!! You will not win a trophy at the end (unless you can do 5 minute miles) EEK!, but the whole point is to challenge yourself, and finish. Period. It doesn't matter if you finish in 1 1/2 hours or 3 1/2 hours. Once you cross the finish line, that's what it's about.

Count me in with you, I support you 1000%!!!

Great goal!!!

Oh, you have balls. I love that about you.

I'm terrified of running (mainly b/c I have an old injury from lifting heavy people out of bed. Stupid nursing!).

Denise that is awesome! I would do it with you if I were home! I've thought about it too, I've done a few 5k's, there are some good websites out there for training and working yourself up to a 5k, 10k, half marathon or marathon! You can do it! Just think of the pride and self accomplishment you'll feel afterwards!

You are brave, that's for sure. I'm sure if you work hard that you can accomplish it though. And what better motivation than the fact that it will be to support the Preeclampsia Foundation? As a preeclampsia survivor myself, I wish I had the balls to train for something like that! Good luck!

I hate running also. I am however joining a place locally (gym) for ladies only this week. I am finally ready to lose the weight!

Good luck to you!
